What happens next?
If you decide to come to see me, I offer an initial assessment where you can explore any issue that is troubling you. I will ask you some questions about yourself, your history, what makes you seek counselling at this time and what you hope to achieve from counselling. We will also discuss how I work, my fee, confidentiality and the practical arrangements for working together.
Most importantly this meeting will give you a chance to see whether you feel comfortable working with me. It is crucial that you find what is right for you and that there's a comfortable fit between us. This is your opportunity to trial things before committing and ask me any questions you might have. There is no obligation to continue beyond this first meeting.
If we decide to work together, we will agree a suitable time and day to meet once a week. Should I feel your needs would be better met by another counselling or psychotherapy service or an alternative agency, I will discuss this with you and make recommendations for a possible onward referral.
How long is a session?
Each session lasts for 50 minutes on a weekly basis. Regular attendance is crucial. If an appointment has to be cancelled, a minimum of 48 hours notice is required or the session will be charged at the usual rate.
How many sessions will I need?
An initial contract of six sessions is recommended with a review in the fifth session which will give us both the opportunity to decide how or whether you proceed after that. This is a weekly commitment for however long is agreed.
Is it confidential?
Confidentiality is an essential part of the counselling relationship. In line with BACP guidelines, I meet regularly with a supervisor to discuss my work with clients. This enables me to gain further insights and ensures that I provide the best possible support to them. In my meetings with my supervisor, I maintain client anonymity at all times.
How much will it cost?
£45 per session. I have a limited number of low cost places available to clients on a low income. I take payment by cheque, cash or internet transfer. I do not take cards.
How do I find you?
I work from the Psychosynthesis and Education Trust, 92-94 Tooley Street, London SE1 2TH. It is two minutes walk from London Bridge station on the Northern and Jubilee lines.
