What is counselling?
Counselling provides an opportunity to explore whatever is troubling you in a confidential setting. As a counsellor, my aim is to create a safe, supportive space for my clients in which they can talk and explore their feelings, beliefs and thoughts, and sometimes relevant aspects of their childhood and personal history. By listening in a focused and purposeful way, I help my clients to access their inner resources and engage in a more effective way with whatever is distressing them.
How might counselling help me?
We all experience emotional and personal problems and, at one time or another, many of us reach a point where we feel we can do with some help and support. You may be having relationship problems, experiencing stress at work, or feeling anxious and alone. You may be asking yourself "Who am I really?" "What is my purpose in life?" or "Is this all there is?"
The support of close friends and family can often be enough to help us get through difficult times. However, to get a clear perspective on our problems, sometimes it can be helpful to talk to someone who is not involved in our daily lives.
Counselling can also help you to:
• Face your problems and grow and develop from them
• Develop more effective coping strategies
• Achieve greater autonomy and self-awareness
• Learn to live with what is, and to trust yourself and others
• Affect the positive changes you want in your life
• Get in touch with your inner wisdom
